MindTouch was poised for an infusion of VC funding so was growing the size its staff. Located in San Diego, the challenge was to attract the best local engineering and creative professionals. San Diego is up and coming as a tech startup location, but due to proximity to Silicon Valley, they compete for the same talent pool. In addition, the company had no branded, standard “head shots” of staff or management.
As a differentiator from more corporate company cultures, I wanted to communicate the quirky, creative, open energy that pervaded MindTouch. Rather than simply taking headshots, we decided to have some fun. Staff were asked to wear their company t-shirts, and were invited to bring in props and costumes representing their personal interests, or simply something arbitrary that we could use in the session. We set up a green screen in a conference room and scheduled 15 minute sessions with individuals, and with teams.
What resulted was a spontaneous set of short video clips that were shared on social media, and incorporated into the “Careers” page of the MindTouch website.
This was part of much larger set of outreach campaigns that helped to grow the company staff by over 30% over a one-year period. Below are some examples from this campaign.
